ell, we still have 2 more weeks until back to school if official for our little ones, but I know a number of moms that are sending their kids off this week!! While summers can seem quick with older kiddos, they can feel LONG when all of your kids are under prek age! :)

Nevertheless, we are in full back to school prep mode around our house. We have new shoes, clothes, backpacks, lunchboxes and nap mats ready to go! And, we have prepared small teacher appreciation gifts for our new classrooms on the 1st day of school.

For a simple, yet appreciated, back to school teacher gift, we paired this super fun red apple pen from Oriental Trading with our "An Apple for my Teacher" gift tags offered in green and red.

Simple download the file, print, trim, punch two holes at opposite corners and thread your red apple pen through! In less than 5 minutes, you can have cute back to school gifts ready for your child, or your entire household.

For personalized gift tags, visit our shop.

Caroline's Big Top Circus Party

Caroline's Big Top Circus party has to be one of my all time favorites (although we aren't supposed to play favorites!). Every once in a while when styling parties, the end result turns out better than you imagined....and this was certainly true with this sweet birthday party!

The backdrop for her dessert table was handpainted and 3-dimensional, with the plaque standing off the distressed backdrop. To add femininity to this colorful table, we selected a simple, white ruffled table skirt. For a touch of whimsy, we added these amazing elephant standees from Shindigz on either side of the table.

Our desserts for this party were so much fun, starting with this stunning 2-tiered buttercream cake draped with red and yellow ribbon and topped with a handcrafted circus tent and animal topper. Vanilla buttercream cupcakes were topped with gold flaming rings and plastic animals. These were such a huge hit with the party guests, many taking their time to select which cupcake and animal topper they wanted as their 'treat'. Red and white carousel cake ball pops were created by adding gold horse vinyl cutouts to striped straws.

Serving both as party gifts for the birthday girl and fun carnival decor, we included some retro toys and a gumball machine on our main table.

On the opposite side of our party room, we set up our "concessions" stand and favor table full of fresh apples, popcorn served in individual kraft paper cones, cracker jacks, and peanuts. Favors were simple, which is often my favorite choice; boxes of animal crackers with fun vintage circus favor tags tied on with raffia.

Guests enjoyed their snacks and desserts at these beautifully decorated seated tables. Each table was draped in lined burlap linens. One of my favorite details selected for this party were the handcrafted pom pom table runners....they just added so much color and well, just plain fun to the tables.

Our centerpieces alternated between simple mason jars full of natural flowers and these fun elephant toys sitting atop colorful rolls of carnival tickets.

During the event, guests enjoyed the skills of Bugga Bugga Balloons, carrying around amazing balloon art and sporting colorfully painted faces and hands. For photo ops, guests old and young alike, enjoyed standing behind our circus cart and in front of our "Step Right Up" standee backdrop where we had a variety of props to strike a pose. The custom made flame was among the favorite props!!!

School Rules! Happy 1st Day....Back to School Printables!!

Back to school is near! We are gearing up around our house, albeit mine are just in prek and there isn't a ton to do thankfully as of yet.....we do have new nap mats, lunch boxes and stainless steel bento inserts and my littlest guy has his very own backpack.

Growing up with a teacher as a mother, I certainly know how much work goes into preparing a classroom. Whether creating lesson plans, decorating bulletin boards, shopping for supplies or preparing activities for their students, teachers are already hard at work around our country.

So, we love to give a small token of gratitude (and hopefully a smile) to each of our new teachers on the 1st day back. We loved these ruler pencils from Oriental Trading and created these fun "School Rules! Happy 1st Day" pencil tag toppers to coordinate.

To assemble, simple download and print our FREE back to school printable below, trim the tags using a paper cutter or scissors, punch a hole in either end of the tag and thread the pencil through the back. Voila!

While there are SO many ideas out there for back to school teacher gifts, we love something simple and practical....and these ruler pencils measure up (HA!).

Happy Back to School!

I can't believe that back to school is just around the corner and that for some of you, it is just getting underway!

As the daughter of a retired teacher, I certainly know how short summer can be as they begin in-service and training days much earlier than the official back to school date. SO, I love to send my littles to school the first day with a little token of our appreciation. After all, who doesn't love getting sweet gifts!?!

When I stumbled upon these Oriental Trading apple eraser pencils, the design wheels definitely started turning. We modified our 2015 apple tag design into a pencil tag format to coordinate with these fun apple eraser top pencils.

Simply print our PDF file onto bright white card stock, punch two holes at either end of the tag using a standard hole punch, and thread your apple pencil through the back.

These fun back to school teacher tags are simple, easy to assemble, and a practical gift for your child to hand to their teacher(s) on the 1st day!

Download our FREE blank " An Apple for my Teacher" printable below, or personalize these tags for a nominal fee in our store.

Spencer's Splish Splash 1st Birthday Bash

When you child's birthday falls during the Houston summer, you definitely want to find creative ways to stay cool! And, that is exactly what Spencer's mommy did for her 1st birthday party. Kids splished and splashed in the front yard with a ton of fun wet and wild toys and activities....

When putting the design together for this birthday party, I was inspired by the simplicity of this sun image I discovered, so we used it enlarged as the dessert table's backdrop. To pull the color scheme and design concept together, we added balloons on poles to either side (Tip: balloons & outdoor parties don't mix well unless anchored down!), this denim table cloth and then for a pop of color and a bit of girly, we layered this amazing custom printed fabric from Minted over the table's front. The Happy Birthday banner was printed in ombre blue, perfectly coordinating with the custom designed invitation.

For the main cake, we mixed a simple "Spencer" pennant banner in pink/blue with a whimsical water droplet design and beach ball topper. For the smash cake, we kept things super simple and went with a light blue, water-like buttercream cake. For a touch more of whimsy and to win over the kiddos, we served mini beach ball cookies sitting in sand (aka brown sugar) and popsicle cookies displayed upright. And finally to keep things cool, we had a bucket of colorful popsicles on ice for everyone to enjoy.

The seated tables were also simple, yet super bright, cheery and practical. We fell in love with this yellow and white table runner found from an amazing etsy seller and decided to use it as our pop of color (plus, they can be used again as not 'kiddy'). For our centerpiece, we filled acrylic (not glass) fish bowls with plush, handmade beach balls. Not only were the beach balls fun to look at, they serve as toys to play with after the party; some of them even had rattles which are ideal for baby toys.

Guests each took home colorful sand buckets filled with summertime toys, each adorned with a favor tag reading, "Hope you had a Splash at my Birthday Bash".

Vintage Kite Birthday Party

7/15/2016

We just fell in love with the vintage kite inspired party collection offered by Minted and knew immediately where we would style it....in my good friend's garden doorway :).

The inspiration for the handmade fabric kites came directly from the party's invitation. We used the same blocking pattern and coloring, but added texture and dimension to the color scheme by choosing complementary fabrics for the kite patterns. For additional texture, we utilized both this textured burlap table skirt and the white floral petal table runner.

Our simple cloud cake was topped with a handmade kite, also inspired by Minted's invitation design. We found this great vintage copper pot and decided to flip it upside down to use as a cake stand. Simple cupcakes were topped with coral paper heart toppers and displayed on a custom made wooden cloud cupcake stand.

Cloud sugar cookies were stacked on a royal blue stand with a custom sign stating, "Come Fly with Me". And for added tabletop decor, we designed this blue kite print, personalized with the birthday boy's details as a keepsake.

The courtyard was decorated with the coordinating "Happy Birthday" banner from the Minted collection.

Overall, we just loved the setting, the simple, yet pulled together look and the general whimsical feeling of a kite themed 1st birthday party!

Let's Luau! A Simple, Affordable Tablescape Design

6/30/2016

Luau's and summertime are a perfect match! And, Oriental Trading is a great resource for unique decor items that don't break the bank!

When you search the term 'luau', there are literally hundreds of design concepts and options that pop up! Leis, tiki torches, raffia, hula skirts, palm leaves, pineapples, hibiscus flowers, palm trees....Choosing a design direction can be overwhelming at times. When working on the design concept for this birthday party, we wanted to create a modern, streamlined look and feel for the seated tables.

This simple tablescape shown above was part of the overall decor design for a Hawaiian theme 2nd birthday party. Acting as a table runner are these fantastically simple palm leaves layered across the table. We loved how they popped against the simple, crisp white linens.

For a pop of color while also working with the green runner, we alternated pink and green leis on the chair backs which appealed to both boy and girl party guests.

And finally, for a fun centerpiece option, hollow out a pineapple and fill with fresh, brightly colored flowers! We chose white hydrangeas for their amazing filler potential and added pops of pink and green throughout to tie everything together.

Rainbows, Sunshine & Unicorns....OH MY!

Who doesn't love a good rainbow and unicorn party!?! I mean...how super cute! My little girl was so excited when I was putting this little party concept together, inspired by the stunning invitation design from Tiny Prints.

So that the focus would be on the colors themselves, I chose to keep everything else white on our dessert table. For a little nod to clouds, we used these over-sized honeycomb balls under the table. I couldn't resist using this amazing handcrafted unicorn from one of my favorite vendors as the centerpiece on the table. We chose to go all white with a gold horn so that it stood apart from the rainbow streamer backdrop,

When creating the backdrop, I wanted something simple & colorful. So, we constructed a layered cloud using white poster board and then suspended rainbow colored crepe streamers from the clouds to the table top.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I am on a simple cake design kick! I loved using an all-white buttercream cake for this shoot and topped with these colorful handmade yarn toppers. So simple! For additional sweets, we served cupcakes wrapped in glittery blue, topped with butterfly toppers inspired by the party's inspiration design. And, also pulling from the invitation's design, we served these amazingly delicious rainbow colored heart sugar cookies.

To keep the party guests entertained, we had these custom printed coloring sheets from Tiny Prints. And following the party, we found these adorable Tiny Prints thank you cards and personalized address labels.

Simple, colorful, cheery and just plain fun are some of the words I would use to describe this party's design!

Summer Shark Soiree- Happy Birthday Kai!

6/14/2016

Picture
Summer times and shark parties seem to go hand in hand....something about the heat, water and sunshine screams shark!!

For this sweet little party, we kept things streamlined, simple and focused on a few key elements to make this birthday boy super happy with the way everything came out.

First, we set up outdoors as this was a pool party and we wanted all of the sweets to be accessible during the event. Rather than covering our dessert table with linens, we chose to have this super fun inflatable shark peeking out of the water to one side. The other side of the table was decorated using this fun, portable photo prop!!

We chose a simple white buttercream cake topped with a printable shark design, sitting in a bed of sand, aka light brown sugar. For added design, we set our cake stand inside a life preserver. Simple buttercream cupcakes were spruced up using these light blue and white striped cups and personalized toppers. For a bit of whimsy, and after all, who doesn't love lollipops at this age....we added a grouping of shark lollipop jaws and fins.

For a pop of red, we chose these red and white striped paper plates, perfectly coordinating with the red accents in our printable collection. To add a bit of softness to the table, we used these nautical glass containers and filled them with one of our favorite flowers, white hydrangeas.

Each guest took home a shark toy with popable eyes, perfect for the preschooler crowd.

A "Jaw-some" time was had by all!!

Georgia & Co's Breakfast at Tiffany's 1st Birthday Party

6/9/2016

When creating the design for Georgia's Tiffany Theme first birthday party, we wanted to stay fairly true to the brand's traditional color palette, while adding in a few unique components and personalized paper products.

As guests entered the home, they were greeted by a custom balloon arch display and banner; tall Tiffany blue balloon columns were accented with pearl balloon wraps.

The main dessert table was covered in a black and white textured Jacquard patterned linen, bringing in a bit of contrast to the Tiffany blue and white coloring found most everywhere else in the party's decor. To highlight the birthday girl herself, her portrait was part of the table's centerpiece, framed in white which was in perfect contrast to the room's navy walls. To add height to the table, we used simple bunches of white on white balloons tied to a 3-tier stack of Tiffany box packages.

For dessert, we chose this amazing 2-tier birthday cake topped with what other than a tiara. The coordinating smash cake was a simple Tiffany wrapped box and bow. For dessert variation, we offered guests decorated petit fors and cake ball pops.

Also on the main table were sweet items to encourage the guests to dress in "Tiffany Style"; pearl strands for the girls and colorful bow ties for the boys.

The seated children's table was draped in a white sequin linen for a bit of sparkle. The white chivari children's chairs were dressed up with custom chair wraps. To bring in the black and white pattern from the main dessert table, we chose these patterned paper plates. One of my favorite details from this table was the diamond napkin ring holder we sourced; what a fun way to dress up simple napkins!! For personalization, more pictures of the birthday girl were placed on the dining table and to add softness to the tablescape, we chose these white on white florals.

As guests departed, they chose a favor bag designed specifically for gender; while the bag's contents were similar, boys took home black sunglasses while girls took home diamond tiaras.

This birthday party was certainly an affair to remember!
