Halloween Game: Poke a Pumpkin....Win a Trick or Treat

10/29/2014

I wanted to share this fun DIY Halloween project that I interpreted from Pinterest for our church's Halloween picnic and both of my kids' class parties.

The concept!? Fun prizes or treats are waiting for kiddos to find when they poke their finger or hands through the tissue paper wrapped cups. I can tell you that this was a big hit at our Halloween church event...so much so, that I made several and am reusing the idea at all of our Halloween events this season.

What you will need to create your own board:

-1 piece of form board (found at craft or office supply stores)
-Full size orange Solo cups (12 shown)
-Orange tissue paper
-Rubber bands
-Green construction paper or poster board
-Treats to fill the cups with (i.e. bubbles, stickers, mini plah-doh, candy, plastic spider rings, plastic bugs, boxes of tattoos, etc.)
-Tape/glue dots (my favorite are the 3D Zots brand)

Adhere the cups to the board using glue dots (or alternatively if you don't have, craft glue left to dry overnight). Fill with your treats. Attach pre-cut orange tissue paper squares (just large enough to cover the cups) with a rubber band around the top, outer edge of each orange Solo cup. At the top of the orange cup stack, glue or tape a medium sized green stem shape to create the look and feel of the pumpkin. And finally, glue or tape the "Poke a Pumpkin" sign available for download below.

If you are using the game at an event where there will be more than 12 participants, be sure to have extra treats, pre-cut tissue paper and rubber bands so that you can continue to refill the cups as they are emptied.

Happy Halloween!

I can't believe that Halloween is FRIDAY!

With planning for our annual church Halloween picnic, both kids' classroom parties and a few birthday parties in between, things have been hectic to say the least!

This week, I plan to focus on enjoying the holiday....little treats for the kids, Boo'ing neighbors that I want to show a little gratitude toward and then trick-or-treating with the kiddos (although with a 3 year old and 20 month old that may last about 1 block!).

Here are some fun lunchbox and backpack printables to add a little Halloween humor to your child's week. The "Some Mummy Loves You" cards are perfect to hide in backbacks, binders or lunchboxes for your child(ren) to find. And, the "Sand-witch" cards add a little humor to any packed lunch.

Simply download, trim and enjoy!
Happy Halloween!

While I LOVE Halloween candy, not all parents are thrilled with the idea of their child coming home with buckets full of treats from that night as well as from school parties!

Boo-doh is a great non-candy Halloween favor for classmates, friends, neighbors or to pass out on Halloween night.

To create your own Boo-doh favors, simply download and print our FREE Boo-doh wrappers, and attach to mini play-doh containers (found typically in the Halloween candy aisle or the toy aisle of most major box retailers).

Have a Happy Halloween!

Who doesn't love a great cupcake!?!?!

Here are some of my favorite Halloween cupcake ideas and recipes, starting with the easiest of all: adding toppers to store bought cupcakes.

One of my favorite local cupcake stops is Whole Foods market; their cupcakes are beautiful, tasty and only 50c each which in comparison with $1.50-2 at local bakeries, is a steal! Simply add our Halloween cupcake toppers and you are set for any Halloween event!

For more Halloween cupcake ideas, be sure to peak at the other ideas shared below. And, to peak at all of our fun 2014 Halloween printables, be sure to visit our etsy store.

I am so excited about this Halloween!!

Even though our oldest Harrison trick-or-treated with daddy a bit last year while I stayed home with our then 8 month old, this is the first year that he is truly excited about his costume and the holiday in general!

Harrison (3) is going to be a pirate and Nora (20 mos) is going to be Tinkerbell (I wanted her to be a parrot be sadly she hates wearing anything on her head...so that costume is out). They are going to be so cute paired together!!

Today, I wanted to share with everyone some fun FREE Halloween printables to send your kids off to school with. Download, print and trim these fun "Mummy Loves You" cards and surprise your child by hiding one in their lunchbox, backpack or binder. They will truly appreciate the sentiment!!

Margaret's Pup-fect Puppy Party!

10/7/2014

Margaret was very clear about the theme she wanted for her 3rd birthday party this year held at Wonderwild (an indoor bounce house)- CUTE DOGGIES!

With only 15 minutes to set-up the party, this is the theme, direction and end-result that her mommy and I came up with. For the children's tables, pink paper table cloths were accented with a grey polka dot gift wrap runner, cute puppy dog plates, floating dog centerpieces and 2 bunches of adorable paw print balloons. On the far wall, a sweet "Happy birthday" banner, accented with cute puppies was visible from all angles of the children's table.

For the main display area, Margaret's mommy found a bakery to match the invitation's dog and to create pale pink paw print cupcakes. For snacks, "pup-corn", "puppy chow", "mini corn dogs" and a bowl of fresh fruit were available.

And as guests departed, they were given sweet gift bags filled with candy and dog shaped crayons, adorned with a favor tag reading "Thanks for the Pup-fect Time, Margaret".

This is our 1st year to participate in our neighborhood's Boo'ing tradition! And, I am so excited!!

We developed these simple, You've Been Booed! and We've Been Booed! cards to start our tradition and wanted to share with all of you as our Freebie Friday download.

The process is simple:

1. If you are Booed, be sure to pay it forward by printing 1-2 copies of the sheets you receive and Boo your neighbors; leave Halloween inspired treats, toys and goodies for your neighbor's children. And, be sure to post the "We've Been Booed! sign in your front window to let everyone know you have received treats.
2. If you are the first one to Boo your neighbors, print 2 copies of both forms and leave along with treats at 2 of your neighbors to start a trend.

Happy Halloween!
