With some festive decor, patriotic snacks and party activities, you can throw an amazing family-friendly 4th of July party!
One of my fondest memories growing up is playing outside with neighbors. We have been fortunate enough to recreate this for our children with a wonderful neighborhood and lots of time spent outdoors. This year, we decided to throw a simple 4th of July party for our cul de sac, and can’t wait to share our festive, yet simple patriotic party ideas with you!
Patriotic Party Decorations
For a block party, I typically utilize one of my 6’ folding tables to set up snacks and beverages. I cannot tell you how much I love floor length linens, but they are often difficult to find for folding tables. Or, they wrinkle and require ironing prior to use…and well as a mom of 4, I can tell you I generally don’t have time for that. The tablecloths from The Folding Tablecloth Company are full length linens specifically designs for folding tables! I LOVE the one we used for our 4th of July block party!
We kept our general decorations for this gathering simple, choosing function over form. We set out a variety of fun patriotic dress up items, noise makers, and pinwheels for the kids to enjoy.
Patriotic Treat Ideas
For casual get togethers, I like the idea of individual servings for both snack and sweet treats. We decorated store bought cupcakes with colorful red and blue baking cups, then added these custom firework inspired pom pom toppers. I love how these simple firework inspired toppers transform a simple, affordable dessert into something theme relevant. For our other sweet treat, we modified store brownies, creating a colorful and delicious patriotic brownie bite.
In addition to sweet treats, I recommend serving several bulk snacks for guests to enjoy. When outdoors, consider individually packaged items versus bulk foods that could possibly require covering to prevent flies. Also, during summer months, choose foods that will be least sensitive to the heat.
Patriotic Party Activities
Simple patriotic party ideas are generally perfect for outdoor parties! Jump ropes, bubble machines, balls, riding toys, and Frisbees are just a few examples of toys to set out for guests to enjoy during your patriotic party. You can also create theme relevant activities. Two of our favorites involve DIY projects using spray chalk from Testors.
Create a four square court using a single color spray chalk for the outer border, then a contrasting color for numbering the squares. Add a bouncing ball, and you have an instant activity. I have also used spray chalk to create instant games such as hop scotch and bean bag tosses. My favorite patriotic party activity has to be this DIY firework backdrop created using red, white and blue spray chalk. Add some festive props and capture moments throughout the party.
