Our newest cactus theme is looking SHARP!! Cactus and fiesta themes are among my favorite to put together. I just LOVE the bright colors, the fun motifs and the numerous options for pulling the look together. Today, we are sharing our top 5 things to include in a cactus birthday party. Keep scrolling…
1. Colorful Fringe
Colorful fringe is iconic for fiesta themes. So, it is a must-have for your cactus birthday party! We incorporated our version of colorful fringe into a simple DIY backdrop. To recreate this look at home, you will need a thin piece of plywood, layers of fringe paper garland, and a staple gun. Beginning at the top of the board, layer the fringe by color from end to end, attaching with a handful of staples over each row. It is that simple!
2. Cactus Themed Desserts
When working with a theme or motif, I look to incorporate it into a few key areas, without going overboard. Too much of a good thing can ruin the look and feel of a party’s design. For our cactus party, when it came to the desserts, we kept it simple. Our 3 layer white buttercream cake was dressed up with brown sugar (aka sand) and some handmade cactus cake toppers from Confection Deception.
3. Cactus Themed Beverages
For most party themes, I search for a beverage option to complement. For our cactus party, I found a vibrant summer mocktail that fit within the fiesta genre. Guests were served a vibrant pineapple mango punch in adorable cactus flower cups. For refills, guests were able to use this fun cactus beverage server. I promise, that a themed beverage served in these fun cups and dispenser will be a hit with all of your party guests!!
4. Cactus Party Decorations
I had so much fun picking and choosing where to incorporate the cactus motif in our party’s design. For the dessert table, you will find cactus images on the desserts, as a hanging banner and for our beverage servers. On the seated guest tables, we used more of an abstract design, opting for cactus flower imagery in this goregous paper table runner and our pops of pink flowers in these fun cactus tumblers. My advice when it comes to working with such a specific theme, is to choose a few key areas to use the literal version of the image, then have fun deconstructing pieces of the theme throughout the rest of the party. I think you will be pleased with the overall look and feel of your event when approaching it from that angle.
5. Cactus Party Activities
For most children’s birthday parties, I recommend 2-3 activities relevant to the theme to keep kids entertained during the event. For our cactus theme, we set out these adorable DIY cactus crafts which each child had the opportunity to make. After the cake was cut, party guests were ushered over into the yard to take turns with our amazing gold fringe donkey pinata. I love how unexpected and fun this solid gold donkey pinata was. We actually used it as party decor on our dessert table until it was time for the game. Other party activities could include an inflatable ring toss game, paint your own rock/cactus, plant your own cactus (for older party guests), and a cactus photo booth. Keep things simple, yet fun and theme related when choosing age appropriate party activities for your birthday party.
We hope you found inspiration in our fun cactus party for your upcoming event! With so many fun cactus party supplies available, and numerous color palette options, the sky is the limit for what you could create!
