How to Create a Fresh Floral Table Runner
In keeping with the pomegranate theme, I of course had to include this pretty fruit in the table décor. For our table runner, I started with fresh greenery strands I sourced at the local grocer. You can often find fresh pieces of eucalyptus or general filler greenery florists use as filler in bouquets; if you don’t see it displayed, simply ask the floral counter what they may have available as stock.Once you layer a base design of greenery, add several different colors of larger blooms and/or berry bunches throughout the centerpiece. I find that visually speaking, things look best displayed in odd numbers; 3, 5, 7, 9 and so-on. Starting with the center of your floral centerpiece, add sprays of berries and flowers evenly from the center outward, adding in odd numbers until you reach your desired fullness.
We were drawn to a light pink peonies and these fabulous pink “spider mums”. We snipped the buds and added them to the base greenery. I loved these red berry branches, also sourced in the floral department of our local grocery, and added them to the layers of fresh greenery. This look can be replicated with endless possibilities of fresh greenery, floral blooms and branches; see what is available with your local florist, and work from there.
Layer Place Settings for Dimension
For the most visually appealing place settings, I recommend that you choose a variety of textures and/or colors for the various components. While I frequently select a variety of textures and colors when putting together my place settings, I chose all-white dishware for this theme to allow the pomegranate to be the star of the show. We started off with this white wavy paper charger from Sophistiplate; then added a white dinner and white salad plate for dimension. For slight contrast, and addition of another texture, we chose basket weave round placemats to ground our place settings.
And for our personalized touch, we turned whole pomegranates into place cards using white vinyl cut with our home cutting machine. I love how bringing in these vibrant fruits in the place settings, table runner and cocktails created a cohesive table decor concept.
