What’s for Dinner? A Cozy, Fall Tablescape

Cooler Fall evenings make the perfect setting for dining Al Fresco, especially in Texas after a hot summer.

We use our outdoor dining table as much as possible, and are always in search of simple, practical and elegant ways to dress up our dining experience. For a more formal table setting, we chose to layer a black chalkboard paper runner over a crisp white base linen. I love paper runners, as they add a layer of complexity to a simple tablescape, yet are super easy to clean up….simply crumple and toss!

​With our rectangular bench style dining table outdoors, I wanted a centerpiece that I could use again and again with each season change. So, I had my friend Jackie over at Created by Jackie create this rustic wood, 36×4” wooden box. For this look, I filled it with topsoil and planted a variety of succulents, which are not only visually stunning, but easy to care for.

​Whenever dining outdoors near our pool, I gravitate toward melamine plates over our glass options. They are just super practical and safer around the water. These “Dinner” plates from The Plate Shoppe were the perfect choice for our outdoor dining affair; simple and modern in design. To make the plate’s design pop, I layered them with black chargers and a more casual round seagrass placemat.

​For a touch of whimsy, I added these fun black and white newsprint fabric napkins. The traditional newsprint pulled in the black from the charger and runner and since they are disposable, they also added to my concept of simple clean-up.
