How to Throw a Mr. Onederful Birthday Party

This theme lends itself to so many design possibilities and iconic imagery, such as bow ties, mustaches, suspenders and more. Choose a few key elements to incorporate the literal theme into. For example, we chose this oversized backdrop for our dessert table; it was easy to set-up in this offsite location, offered great scale and brought in some personalization.

All of our desserts played well into the black, white & gold coloring of the party, pulling in subtle design elements in the cupcake wrappers and bow tie on the cake. We also used bow ties on simple white paper bags for favors, bow tie banner, and added personalized paper placemats for the children’s tables.

To complement the personalized Mr. Onederful decorations, we chose classic linens and formal chairs for a cohesive look. Children’s tables were draped in gray patterned linens and paired with white chivari chairs, while we chose black chivari chairs for the adult tables for distinction.

Consider Scale when Selecting Party Decorations

Whenever planning a party in a large scale space, such as a clubhouse, consider the size when making décor choices. To add visual interest to the room’s height, we chose large 36” confetti balloons with custom tassels on the adult’s table. We also selected an oversized photo backdrop, both filling up space, and offering a party activity for guests to enjoy.

Mr. Onederful Party Activities

When putting together your first birthday party, consider how you will entertain guests. For this Mr. Onederful party, there was a DJ appealing both to adults and children, a face painter and balloon artist and photo booth with props. Choose 2-4 activities that work well within your theme and that are age appropriate for guest entertainment at your event.
