If you are planning a modern wedding, then you will love this tablescape concept and our 5 simple planning tips outlined below for replicating the look. One of my favorite color combinations for winter weddings, is blue and silver with a touch of blush pink. Keep scrolling to see how we incorporated this color palette into a modern wedding tablescape, perfect for winter.
5 Easy Ways to Decorate a Modern Wedding Tablescape
1. Venue Selection
First, choose a venue that features modern design elements; warehouse bricks, exposed beams or ducts, interesting large windows providing natural light, and/or concrete floors. Natural light and openness are ideal when creating a modern event design. If something that incorporates these elements is not available in your area, consider a venue space will all-white walls and simple flooring that can act as a blank design slate for your modern wedding.
2. Winter Color Palettes
Next, select a color palette that lends itself to modern styling. For our winter wedding tablescape, we focused on silver and blues, with a touch of blush pink. I love the idea of an unexpected color palette selection for wedding décor. Other modern color palettes to consider include: teal and gray, blue and orange, modern neutrals or bold, bright colors.
3. Modern Design Elements
Once you have selected your wedding’s color palette, you can begin to search for complementary design elements. Modern design elements often incorporate bright light, natural materials, elegant lines, and uncluttered surfaces. We chose a bright white linen from The Folding Table Cloth as the base for our tablescape, pairing it with a modern table runner pattern, solid colored napkins and tabletop items, and asymmetrical flatware. Two of the best features of this particular linen are it’s unique, subtle lines and it’s fit; they are designed to fit perfectly over your selected table size (i.e. 6 or 8’ rectangular or round).
4. Modern Patterns & Prints
Modern design often incorporates statement pieces or art, many times showcasing bold colors or design. Choose a jumping off pattern for your tablescape design; table runner, napkin pattern or base linen. The elements from the pattern selected should be pulled through your entire event.
The table runner we selected for our modern wedding featured a simple, yet interesting pattern of lines highlighting the event’s color palette; silver, navy and lighter blue tones. Mix busy patterns with solid, anchor colors. The white fitted linen from The Folding Table Cloth acted as an anchor point for the eye, complementing the busier pattern of our table runner. Then as a single detail, we created custom menu cards that pulled colors from the runner, placing them atop steel colored solid napkins and simple white tabletop items.
5. Incorporate Natural Elements & Textures
Textures can create ambiance in a space or for a tablecape- hard or soft, smooth or rough. Textures plan an important role in modern design, ultimately working to create an inviting space; not uninviting or cold. Floral arrangements can add softness to a modern tablescape. In addition to our floral centerpiece, we added single rose blooms in silver votive candles at each place setting. Laser cut, wooden place cards were painted silver and added to the side of each table setting. Mix together elements and textures for an inviting event space.
