Joey & Tanner’s shark birthday party was held at the Houston Downtown Aquarium. I loved working in this space to create a fun experience for all of the party guests. We are sharing simple shark party ideas below that could be replicated in any venue.

Shark Party Ideas- Decorations

The inspiration for the dessert table backdrop was pulled directly from the shark party invitation design. The shark silhouette was hand painted on the backdrop in its likeness. For texture, and color variation, we added a raffia table skirt around the table’s base and then draped a shark fin “Happy Birthday” banner using straight pins at either side.

Shark Party Ideas- Desserts

Each birthday, Joey and Tanner blow out their birthday candles on their own cakes, a great way to make each twin feel special on their shared birthday. This year’s cakes were simple fondant rounds decorated with modern waves and topped with a shark cookie. Guests also had the option to choose cupcakes decorated with personalized cupcake toppers or shark sugar cookies.

Seated guest tables were covered in a light blue plastic tablecloth for easy clean up after the event. White fish netting was draped along the center of each table as a runner, then we added inflated beach balls for color and fun hand-painted wooden shark fins as centerpieces. Blue chevron paper plates served as chargers, with desserts served on fun shark dessert plates. And, we can never resist adding in a playful element to seated tables, so we added these fun paper shark glasses.

Each party guest took home blue chevron paper bags filled with shark goodies sourced at the aquarium. The colored bags added a fun pop of color to the dessert table. Party favor tags reading, “I Hope you had a Fin-tastic Time” were attached to each bag using simple ribbon.
