In this post, we are sharing photo inspiration and some of our favorite rainbow party supplies to help you put together the ultimate rainbow unicorn party!
Sweet Kate’s request for her 6th birthday party theme was rainbow unicorns. So, we got to work. I loved working to come up with some unique touches for her special day, and hope that you find inspiration in our rainbow unicorn party ideas shared below.
Rainbow & Unicorn Dessert Ideas
Kate’s rainbow unicorn cake was one of my absolute components in the entire party. We incorporated the “rainbow” part of the theme into the base of the 2-tier cake in the form of rosettes. And, we added a rainbow unicorn mane to the handmade topper. The unicorn cake topper was created using my Brother Scan N Cut DX machine which allows me to scan and cut any image I select. The yarn rainbow mane was added between the two cut sheets of card stock, then a food safe stick was added to insert it into the top tier of Kate’s cake. For variety, we also offered rainbow sugar cookies, which were a hit with the kids and adults.
Modern Party Decorations with Rainbows & Unicorns
The highlight of Kate’s party decorations were the custom unicorn centerpieces, complete with unique manes. My vision for these centerpieces was an ultra-modern white unicorn silhouette with a 3D mane created from colorful yarn. I was thrilled with the way they turned out, and thankful for Created by Jackie for the custom woodwork and Fancy Flamingo Design.
The rainbow motif was integrated into the party’s decorations in the form of literal rainbow plates, rainbow mylar balloons, simple floral arrangements and the dessert designs. To balance the amount of color added into the décor, we selected simple, gold sequined table runners.
Rainbow Unicorn Party Activities
One of the best things about hosting a children’s birthday party at a venue is the built-in entertainment. Kate’s birthday party was held at her ballet studio, where the girls enjoyed demonstrations and a small performance together. While they were in the party room, we set out several rainbow unicorn party activities to keep those little hands busy.
Our first activity, which I loved as it was theme relevant, but not messy, were these lacing rainbows. Another fun, and simple activity that we selected were these DIY headbands that each party guest was able to make. A variety of adornments were available for the girls to transform ordinary headbands into works of art.
When coming up with party activities for your theme, first consider the age of the party guests. Then, take into account the amount of time available to complete the activity and the supplies needed. For an average 2-hour party where some form of entertainment is provided by the venue, I recommend 1-2 additional crafts or activities. If you are hosting the party where entertainment is not provided, consider setting up 3-5 stations for guests to enjoy during the event.
