Choose a Neutral Serving Board or Platter
With all of these vivid Halloween candy colors, you need a neutral platter to act as a base. We used this round, marble inlayed wooden cutting board for our charcuterie tray, but solid cutting boards, white marble trays or plain white platters would also work perfectly for this display.
Choose Complementary Candy Colors
One of the best things about Halloween candies is that they are available in a variety of colors. While you could certainly create a candy charcuterie in a multitude of colors, or ALL of the colors, we chose a specific color palette to work within for our presentation.
We were inspired by the fun color mix in the M&M’S® Candies Ghoul Mix, featuring vibrant orange, lime green and purple. We used those colors as a jumping off point, choosing other candies within that same color palette, or those that complemented them. For example, we pulled orange and reds from the larger STARBURST® Fruit Chews FUN SIZE® Variety Mix for our charcuterie tray, as they complemented our base color palette.
Add Height for Visual Interest
The eye is drawn to variation. When designing the layout of your Halloween charcuterie board, display small, loose candy within individual bowls. You see this same styling concept applied on cheese trays for smaller items such as olives or marcona almonds.
We used three small bowls to house our M&M’S® Ghoul’s candies (milk chocolate and peanut chocolate) and individual STARBURST® candies that we pulled from the STARBURST® Fruit Chews FUN SIZE® Variety Mix.
Add Variety- Textures, Shapes & Sizes
As you build your Halloween charcuterie tray, choose items that offer contrast to one another in either texture, shape and/or size. Search for wrapped candies and unwrapped candies. Look for large, medium and small sizes. And, choose a variety of shapes; square, rectangular, round and irregular.
The center of our tray was filled with orange, foil wrapped DOVE® PROMISES® Silky Smooth Milk Chocolate Pumpkins. These wrapped candies added a vibrant pop of orange, and offered a unique shape to anchor our charcuterie board’s design.
Rather than mix the remaining wrapped candies from our Mars Chocolate Variety Mix Stand-up Bag, we grouped like items together. For example, piles of SNICKERS® candies and piles of MILKY WAY® candies. We placed half of the grouped bite sizes candies filled one half of the charcuterie tray, while the remaining candies filled the other half. Our smallest, unwrapped candies were placed within individual serving bowls.
Abundance is Key!
Fill your platter to the brim with Halloween candies!! Don’t be afraid to fill every last inch of your Halloween charcuterie tray with candy! After all, can you ever have too much candy!?!? I think not.
