Learn how to incorporate the principles of farmhouse design into your holiday tablescape.
There is something incredibly cozy about farmhouse style, making it ideal for your holiday table décor. We styled a warm & cozy farmhouse tablescape for this year’s holiday season and are excited to share with you a few tips so you can replicate the look at home. We hope our ideas inspire your farmhouse holiday decor!
Farmhouse Style- Start with a Neutral Color Palette
Neutral colors are the ideal base for farmhouse style. We selected this floor length ivory linen from our friends at The Folding Tablecloth as the jumping off point in our design. We love that their linens fit perfectly over folding tables, making it easy to extend our seating space during large holiday gatherings. Watch our brief video below to see the table’s transformation. Other neutral colors to consider incorporating include beige, silver, sage green or grey. Another popular color palette for farmhouse style is black and white; or beige and white.
Farmhouse Holiday- Mix & Match Materials
Farmhouse style is known for warmth and simplicity, characterized for mixing and matching textures and materials such as wood, greenery and galvanized metal. Here are some of the most common farmhouse style elements to consider incorporating into your holiday tablescape:
- Barnhouse wood
- Painted wood pieces
- Galvanized metal
- Architectural pieces, preferably salvaged
- Pine
- Wrought iron
- Vintage or vintage inspired accessories
- Natural textiles
- Family heirlooms
- Signage
Incorporate several of these textures for a cohesive farmhouse table. We utilized galvanized metals, neutral colors, farmhouse inspired holiday trees and wreaths, and natural textures in our farmhouse holiday tablescape.
Incorporate Well Thought Out, Practical Details
Farmhouse style shouldn’t look over-done or over-calculated. Choose table décor accessories wisely, and edit where needed. We incorporated a galvanized container into our centerpiece concept, filling it with farmhouse holiday ornaments. We stumbled upon these farmhouse inspired ornaments in natural textiles during a shopping trip and they coordinated beautifully with the look! The farmhouse centerpiece design was simple, but it worked! And, we could use the ornaments on the tree or for other holiday décor purposes after the event.
To personalize our farmhouse holiday tablescape, we added simple placecards atop green wreath ornaments, which doubled as a gift for dinner guests. Placecards are a wonderful way to add personalization and warmth to any holiday table.
