For me, tablescape inspiration can come from virtually anywhere. This year, I fell in love with the idea of creating a skull floral centerpiece. So, when I stumbled upon this fun color shift aerosol paint by Testors, I knew the 2 would make an amazing combination. Keep reading for the simple DIY for this fun centerpiece, plus a few tips for pulling together your own elegant Halloween party.
Tips for Hosting an Elegant Halloween Party
We are thrilled to share a few simple tips for creating a Halloween tablescape with you all! First, select a color palette. This year, we were inspired by the purple shade found in the Testors Color Shift Aerosol Paint, so it became our jumping off point for design. We added additional pops of purple to our florals and napkins.
Next, create layered place settings for each guest. Combining colors, textures and patterns adds visual interest to any tablescape. We selected silver glass chargers and formal china for our elegant Halloween party design.
Finally, bring in elegant Halloween details into the design. Keep in mind; less can sometimes be more. For example, our nods to Halloween included these rhinestone spider napkin rings and our DIY skull floral centerpieces. Choose a few key holiday decor items to incorporate into your design for an elevated end design result.
DIY Halloween Skull Centerpiece
This DIY skull centerpiece is the perfect mix of elegant and spooky! Within a few hands-on minutes, you can recreate this stunning skull centerpiece at home!
Supplies Needed
- Skull Vase- You can utilize either a ceramic vase like the own shown, or you can DIY using a paper mache skull that has been carved out from the top with a glass vase insert
- Testors Color Shift Aerosol Paint (Purple Fog Shown)
- Testors Black Tie Gloss Aerosol Paint
Directions
- Spray Testors Black Tie Gloss Aerosol Paint over a clean surface (i.e. ceramic is shown).
- Spray a top coat of Testors Color Shift Aerosol Paint over the black base coat. Allow to dry.
- Using floral filler inside the vase, add your arrangement of fresh flowers to create the final look. We used a mix of greenery, black roses, thistles, light purple flowers and a hint of yellow in our arrangement. But, any combination of flowers and greenery used to create height in this type of vase would achieve a similar look.
This DIY skull centerpiece was most definitely a talking point during the party! He is definitely one of my favorite design concepts. And, I love how the coloring shifts based on the viewpoint and the lighting in the space from green to purple!
You can find Testors Color Shift Aerosol Paint (Purple Fog) used in our DIY skull centerpiece at Joann’s, Michael’s and A.C. Moore. It is also available online at Amazon.com. We hope our ideas inspired you to host an elegant Halloween party this year!
