I Scream, You Scream, We all Scream for Ice Cream!! Ice cream birthday parties are always a good idea!! I mean, who doesn’t love to many flavors of ice cream available!?! We loved putting together this fun theme in one of our favorite little stores around the corner. I hope we can guide you through how to throw a beautiful, yet simple and budget friendly ice cream birthday party. Keep reading to learn how!
Our birthday party was inspired by the coloring of our ice cream cone invitation design shown above. It was the perfect color combination for this sweet shoppe.
Ice Cream Birthday Party Decorations
When you select a party venue, consider its decor when designing your party. If there are great colors, fun design elements, and items such as tables and chairs available; use them. By leveraging the items available to you, the overall cost for the event will dramatically reduce. Take a look around, note what is available, then head out to complete your shopping.
To complement the light teal wall and table coloring, we added pops of red throughout our party’s design. Fun red and white polka dot balloons were scattered across the floor. Two bunches of white and red polka dot balloons highlighted our sweet bar. And a simple, vintage inspired table runner added dimension to the seated table. While simple in design, it’s all this colorful space needed!
Ice Cream Topping Bar
Individual white porcelain bowls, each filed with ice cream toppings, were set out along the center of the table with small serving spoons. We selected chopped nuts, sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, and cookies and cream crumble. There are literally hundreds of fun ice cream toppings available to select from. If you plan to duplicate our simple runner concept, select 5-7 different toppings to set out. Alternatively, you could create a small DIY ice cream topping bar to one side of the venue space.
For a splurge item, consider a large scale cardboard standee such as this ice cream parlour photo prop. Guests loved not only playing in it during the party, but we were able to capture adorable photos of the party guests.
Ice Cream Cookie Cake
One of my favorite affordable options for custom cakes is to decorate using sugar cookies. This ice cream birthday party cake started as a simple fondant covered cake. Ice cream cone cookies on sticks were added as a colorful topper. Then, we added a vintage ice cream truck cookie and some adorable smiley face cones along the front. Beautiful cakes don’t have to break the bank!
