I am “Mad for Plaid” this year for sure!! I am sharing this simple trail mix bar cart today; a fun alternative to sweet favors, and a crowd pleaser for all ages.
The focal point of our trail mix cart was our mounted faux deer wearing his cozy buffalo plaid yarn scarf! I loved the idea of incorporating this popular color palette in a modern way. For a more rustic look, we mounted the deer onto distressed wood boards, organized in an asymmetrical fashion. This DIY piece was easy to assemble and can be reused for a variety of purposes in the future.
For a few additional buffalo plaid décor elements, we added this flannel table runner, filled a red lantern with scented pine cones, added a variety of honeycomb balls along the base of our display and added this set of 3 cardboard trees.
DIY Trail Mix Bar
To set up your own trail mix bar, you will need to gather the following items:
Containers or cups. We chose these small kraft paper cups for guests to enjoy their trail mix during our holiday party. For to-go options, select something with a lid for freshness.
Granola. We are huge fans of Happy Girl granola; I mean how cute is the packaging!?! Plus, it is available in delicious flavor combinations. Choose a basic granola and 1-2 other mixes to provide a base for the trail mix.
Toppings. Display 3-5 topping options for guests to add to their granola; coconut flakes, dried fruits, chocolate chunks or chips, chocolate candies.
Spoons. We displayed wooden spoons for each topping type to make it easy for guests to assemble their trail mix. Trail mix bars are perfect snacks for holiday gatherings or party favors; a healthy and fun alternative for guests to enjoy. And, with literally hundreds of combination possibilities, the sky is the limit for what you could create.
Happy Trails!
