One of my favorite themes for Fall birthdays is the Lil Pumpkin, especially for 1st birthdays!! With inspiring colors and readily available decor, it’s a wonderful Fall theme. Keep scrolling for some of our favorite pumpkin party ideas!
Pumpkin Party Decorations
When researching pumpkin party ideas, we wanted to focus on traditional fall elements, namely pumpkins, rustic materials such as burlap, hay bales, dark woods and mason jars. The highlight of our dessert table was most certainly the pumpkin standees. For depth and contrast, we chose a chalkboard patterned paper roll as the base of our table’s backdrop.
For softness and height, we anchored a 36” white latex balloons accented with boxwood garland on either side of the dessert table.
Drawing the eye downward, we used standard burlap linens dressed up with a fun, lit mason jar garland. We also used a large hay bale as a prop for one of our pumpkin standees. While we certainly love all of the sweet treats on a party’s dessert table, we also feel it is important to consider all aspects of the design, including above the table and below the table for the best overall look.
Pumpkin Party Desserts
Our centerpiece dessert was this amazing, 3 layer pumpkin naked cake. While I am the first to vote for decorated cakes, sometimes the simplest options are the best choices for creating an overall design look. This cake not only looked perfect, it tasted amazing!! And, this type of cake design is also affordable.
For dessert variety, we displayed store bought vanilla buttercream cupcakes topped with a single pumpkin candy. Personalized pumpkin cupcake wrappers added a finishing touch to these sweet desserts. We displayed these pumpkin cupcakes on rustic wooden risers. These risers are so versatile, giving just enough table height to distinguish a dessert without competing with other design elements. For the birthday boy, we displayed a single pumpkin theme birthday party hat on an orange cake pedestal for the big photo op blowing out the candle.
Desserts were served on pumpkin dessert plates paired with orange stamped wooden forks that were simply displayed in a single Ball glass jar.
One of my favorite things about a pumpkin theme birthday party is that you can often reuse décor elements in your own home’s fall decorating. The pumpkin standees would be perfect for dressing up a fall fireplace or even outside under a covered porch.
