Allison’s Dance Birthday Party- Hip Hop Party Ideas

Let’s Dance! Guests of Allison’s 9th hip hop birthday party were in for a big treat! She not only dazzled her guests with fun dance party ideas and décor, but a group dance lesson and performance. Their choreographed dance performance was videotaped as a keepsake following the birthday party. Keep reading for fun vintage inspired hip hop party ideas and DIY projects.

Dance Party Decorations

Since Allison’s birthday party was held in a dance studio, décor ideas needed to be simple to put out, while pulled together. We used black vinyl fringe in layers as a DIY backdrop. To recreate this look, trim layers of black vinyl fringe to your desired length. Attach to a wall using adhesive tape, or you could pre-assemble by attaching using a staple gun to a 48” square piece of thin plywood.
A black tablecloth covered the folding table, and a purple glitter paper runner was added for pop. Another option for a more budget friendly table runner option would be to layer purple glitter tulle across the table’s center.
To bring some playful elements into her party’s set-up, we added an inflatable boom box cooler as a centerpiece for height. Her neon colored desserts were displayed at various heights for visual interest. Then, simple props like glitter microphones were added to double as photo props and décor elements.

Dance Party Desserts

When hosting a birthday party, consider offering 2-4 dessert options for variety and visual interest on your desert table. Allison’s vintage inspired hip hop cake was the star of her dessert table. Two tiers of cake were layered in fondant, then decorated in fun iconic imagery and modern graffiti. Cake was served on neon paper plates. Bite sized cupcakes were decorated in fun boom box and LP record printable cupcake toppers. Microphone cake ball pops in neon colors were set out, and neon colored rock candy.

Dance Party Favors

In addition to the choreographed video keepsake, guests took home fun dance party favor bags filled with over-sized gold sunglasses and beaded necklaces. Party favor tags reading “You Made my Party Totally Awesome” were attached to each bag using simple curling ribbon.
