Every little monster deserves an adorable party theme!! I love this theme for children of all ages, but it is especially adorable for a 1st birthday celebration! I hope you find some monstrous ideas from our little party!
The inspiration for our dessert table’s backdrop was from the adorable set of monster standees. We fell in love with this green float tissue fringe and decided to create a textured backdrop by layering the fringe against a 48” square piece of plywood. Then, we simply added an eye and mouth with silly teeth out of poster board using a staple gun. It was an affordable and simple DIY project that left a massive impact on the party guests. To complement our furry monster backdrop, we added 3D monster standees at the base of the table, to either side.
For dimension on the dessert table, we added a simple black and white runner across the center. This allowed for our simple desserts to pop against the white base tablecloth. When working with bright décor colors, choosing a white linen as a base often creates more ‘pop!’
Whenever hosting afternoon parties, I often keep snacks minimal, selecting 1-2 theme related snacks for fun along with our selected desserts. For the monster party, I loved the idea of individually packaged “Monster Munch” packs, created using pretzel rods, caramel popcorn, candy corn, Chex Mix and candied eyes for added humor.
Our cake was simple, yet amazing covered completely in textured orange icing with tons of oversized monster eye-balls. We also served simple cupcakes decorated with personalized monster theme cupcake wrappers and candied eyeballs on monster plates with coordinating purple napkins. When guests sang Happy Birthday to the guest of honor, everyone wore personalized monster party hats.
Beverages were served in monster paper cups and coordinating, “Little Monster” tumblers, which are perfect for younger guests as they reduce spills.
One of the more popular activities at the party was getting their photo taken in the mouth of an oversized monster standee.
Each guest was encouraged to “Adopt a Monster” as their party favor; cute mini plush monsters. We loved creating the fun label using a personalized monster sticker.
We had a monstrous time designing this Little Monster birthday party for sweet Mason and hope you are inspired to create a celebration for the monster in your life.
