In this post, you will find photo inspiration and styling tips to help you throw a fintastic shark party!
DO DO DO DO DO DO. Who else has a child that is obsessed with Baby Shark!?! When it came to planning Ella’s 2nd birthday party, it was clear what she wanted…sharks. So, we put this party together with her favorite characters, some fun props and she was gifted some Baby Shark toys that played the theme song. Overall, it was the perfect day. We hope that you find inspiration in our ideas below for your upcoming party!
1. Baby Shark Decorations
The shark element was utlized in a number of places througout Ella’s birthday party, without becoming overwhelming. We chose a shark standee to use on a simple DIY blue & white streamer backdrop, and another as a prop for the base of the dessert table. For the rest of her party’s decor, we used ocean elements and more subtle nods to the theme. This style of decorating children’s parties is my favorite. I love to include the motif in a handful of meaningful places, but opt for simple colors and textures throughout the rest of the decor as balance. 2. Personalized Items
Every child LOVES to see things that are just for them, particularly anything with their name on it. SO, adding in a few personalized items into any party theme is a BIG win. For Ella’s shark birthday party, we personalized her welcome signage, cupcake wrappers, water bottle labels, snack bags and party favor bags. Personalized stickers are a great, affordable way to bring in character to any birthday party theme. And, they can be used in so many places; cupcake wrappers, cupcake toppers, party favor bags, signage, water bottle labels and more!
3. Tips for Choosing Desserts
Not all party decor items or desserts have to match, or be part of the theme. In fact, I think a party’s design looks more interesting and unique when you include a variety of colors, textures, images and motifs. For Ella’s birthay party, we decided to add in some pink coloring into the desserts, to balance the common blue color typically found in shark party decorations. Her cake was a simple store bought cake covered in pink buttercream icing. To dress it up, and to pull in some of the ocean theme elements, we added and her personalized acrylic “Ella” topper and some custom shell decorations. Cupcakes were dressed up with fun “Chomp” cupcake wrappers. For additional dessert variety, you could bring in some personalized shark and ocean theme sugar cookies or a candy buffet.
4. Photo Opportunities
One of my favorite things to include in any kid’s party is a photo opportunity. This oversized cardboard shark standee with a cutout was SO much fun to not only play with, but made for great party photos.
5. Shark Favor Ideas
When choosing a party favor for a child’s birthday party, the first thing I consider is the age. It is so important to choose a party favor that is age appropriate. Next, I search for items that work with the party’s theme. For Ella’s birthday party, these shark bath toys were the perfect preschool age option. Plus, they are something that will be used again and again, well after the party. For older party guests, consider shark toys, shark tattoos, or shark candy as alternatives.
